The Maternal Fetal Medicine Department of Carilion Clinic is seeking a full-time Genetic Counselor to join our dedicated clinical team to provide comprehensive prenatal genetic services to the region of western Virginia.   Our office currently has one awesome genetic counselor, three fantastic maternal fetal medicine physicians, two highly skilled sonographers, and wonderful, dedicated support staff.  Each clinician has an office (with a window!) in our clinic, one block from downtown Roanoke.  And if our enthusiasm isn’t enough, Carilion Clinic also offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package including pension, professional meeting/membership reimbursement, and relocation assistance.

 

Our patient population and clinical indications for referral are diverse and will provide the successful candidate with broad exposure to rare genetic disorders and ultrasound findings. As a tertiary care medical center, Carilion Clinic has the third largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the state with a number of obstetric and pediatric subspecialists.  Our MFM department collaborates closely with other specialties to ensure the best level of care for our patients and their families.

 

The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM), on the Carilion campus in Roanoke, also provides the opportunity for academic appointment.  Through our affiliations with VTCSOM and Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), there are numerous teaching opportunities to residents, medical students, and other medical professionals.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) accredited program required.

Experience: Experience in genetic counseling through graduate school internships.

Licensure/Certification: Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling as a Genetic Counselor required.

Other: Demonstrated clinical, counseling, interpersonal, analytical, communication skills. Demonstrated skills in patient assessment. Computer data entry skills and computer knowledge to include but not limited to Microsoft word, PowerPoint, excel, and electronic medical records required. Must provide own transportation. Occasional meetings outside of Clinic hours
