How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:
Provides professional nursing care for patients in the clinical setting. Provides leadership to nursing staff members, and collaborates with other members of the health care team to assure quality care for the Patients. Promotes, plans, directs, and implements medical management and safe transportation for critically ill/injured infant or child, in consultation with the attending physician. Maintains standards of professional nursing practice.
- Nursing Process: Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates delivery of nursing care in accordance with the medical plan of care, nursing practice standards, nursing care standards, and policy and procedures in order to achieve optimum patient outcomes for patients of al ages.
- Transport: Collaborates with other transport team members to ensure the safety of all transport operations. Provides rapid assessment, emergency measures and transportation for the critically ill/injured infant or child, utilizing the latest technique and state of the art equipment.
- Competence: Acquires and maintains advanced neonatal skills such as intubation,
- Ventilation, insertion of UAC’s, and chest needle aspirations or chest tube insertion. Maintains all requited certifications, licenses and continuing education.
- Leadership: Organizes, prioritizes, directs, supervises and evaluates nursing care delivered by various levels of staff both in hospital and on transport. Participates in providing outreach education.
- Communication: Uses an advanced level of communication skills.
- Professional Environment: Actively promotes a safe professional unit and transport environment.
- Patient Advocacy: Functions as patient advocate, protector of patient rights and provider of psychosocial support.
- Performs independently during team downtime in a productive manner. Completes timely communication of progress on team or individual assignments at staff meetings and through email updates. Recognizes non-productive time and changes status to on-call or goes home with PTO if not staffing.
- Assists patient, family and referring facility in completing the electronic satisfaction surveys or provides a paper format of the survey. Assists Outreach Department on transport follow-up during down-time.
What We Require:
Education: Graduate of professional school of nursing required.
Experience: 3 years of Full Time employment in a critical care or emergency department setting required. PICU or NICU preferred.
Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Must possess current Virginia nursing license. BLS required. As of 01/01/19 C-NPT (Certified Neonatal Pediatric Transport) is required within 2 years of hire.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Must have understanding of human growth and development. Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Programs and Advanced Cardiac Life Support prior to coming off orientation and Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course and STABLE within 1 year. Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation yearly for position. Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and high tolerance to stress. Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of the position. Must be self-motivated.
