Job Summary


The Women's Health Navigator will coordinate the experience of women who access and receive care within Women’s Health/Imaging Mammography Center at CNRVMC, as it is needed. To provide a single point of contact for Women’s Health Services.  This point of contact is established for patients, hospital/medical staff, and or community consumers/organizations. Communicates, organizes, prioritizes, leads, facilitates, and problem solves with other members Carilion’s management team to ensure cost-effective patient services which will enhance customer satisfaction. Participate in all levels of program planning and evaluation.


The Women’s Health Navigator must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.


Actively participates in all phases of the development of the CNRV Women’s Health Center and Imaging Mammography Services.  Participates in the development, coordination, implementation, presentation, and evaluation of women’s health education programs for staff and the community.  Will develop a logical scope and sequence plan for these programs as well as formulation appropriate and measurable program goals and objectives. Plans, develops, facilitates, provides and evaluates community education and outreach programs that are consistent with current knowledge, research, and consumer interest in collaboration with the Carilion Imaging management team.


Active participation in the development, and coordination, of all evolving services to be provided by the CNRV Imaging Mammography Center. Communicates daily with internal and external customers, including patient, families, physicians, and other service lines to coordinate excellence in patient care.  Communicates frequently with other managers, service lines, other Carilion facilities and external organizations to resolve problems and plan longer-range activities. Normal hospital patient care environment. According to Employee Safety codes, appropriate protective measures are required for all procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissue, or potential for spills or splashes of them. Hepatitis B Vaccination is strongly recommended. Potential exposure to hazardous materials. Travel may be required between Carilion Health System sites.  Must provide own transportation.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in Nursing or Community Health Education preferred, or Bachelor’s required with at least 5-7 years of experience in women’s health setting.

Experience: Minimum of 5 - 7 years in a multidisciplinary women’s health setting.  Past experience in program planning and evaluation required. Knowledge of current community education health constructs and experience with the health risk appraisal process also required. Experience in the development of community health education initiatives preferred.  Past management experience or supervisory experience preferred.

Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia. Must obtain/maintain AHA BLS-HCP.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Positive interpersonal oral communication skills; effective written communication skills; analytic business skills; integrity as a team player; courteous with the ability to resolve complaints/problems; possess a customer focused philosophy of excellence of service; ability/willingness to work as an integral member of a multi-skilled team. Must demonstrate computer skills to include, but are not limited to, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel. Must demonstrate ability to utilize computerized audiovisual devices.
