Seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (APP) to join Interventional Radiology services at Carilion Clinic. All APPs share coverage of procedural areas on a rotating basis. Procedures performed by APPs include image guided joint injections, spine injections, lumbar punctures, myelograms, biopsies, drains, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and central venous access placement. Training and proctoring are provided. This program is a well-developed, advanced program, offering a collaborative team with nursing, technologists, APPs and physicians working together. A collegial attitude is required. This position will rotate travel between Carilion Giles Community Hospital and Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital. Three days per week the APP will travel to one of the two locations (CGCH and CRBH) and two days per week will be at either Carilion New River Valley Medical Center or Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. No weekends or call coverage.
Surgical First Assist provides billable surgical first assist services. They spend a minimum of 40% of work time providing surgical assist services. The rest of the time is spent working with patients doing pre-surgical assessments, rounding post-surgery and providing post-surgical assessment and care. This role includes responsibility for identifying the patient's health status through taking of health histories; performing physical examinations; initiating screening and diagnostic procedures; management of minor trauma and acute health problems; health maintenance and clinical management of stable or chronically ill patients. May see a large volume of patients per workday.
What We Require:
Education: Bachelor's degree and graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program required.
Experience: Clinical experience appropriate to specific practice/ department preferred.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Certification by the NCCPA required. Current Physician Assistants license (PA) required. DEA licensure required.
Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP certification required. Advanced life support is preferred and is required for those who may use a defibrillator in their practice.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Meets credentialing requirements. Qualifies for malpractice insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinic’s malpractice insurance carrier. Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers. Maintains open and supportive communications between all department members and other employees, patients and their family members. Commitment to continued professional development.
