Job Summary

This position will provide leadership oversight for each of our flight bases in Christiansburg, Hardy, and Lexington, Virginia.  Carilion Clinic Life-Guard, operated by Med-Trans Corp., is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) and licensed by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services.  In addition to the flight program, this position will also manage our neonatal-pediatric transport team based out of Carilion Clinic Children’s Hospital which includes a regional level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.  The neonatal-pediatric transport team provides critical care ground/air transport for neonates and pediatric patients up to age 18.  The Flight Program and Critical Care Transport Operations Manager reports directly to the program director and will work closely with each of our clinical team leaders to manage operations, personnel, develop performance improvement projects, ensure regulatory accreditation, and promote employee engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors required. 8 years of equivalent leadership experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelors degree. Must be graduate of an approved school or EMS program.

3 years supervisory or clinical team lead experience required. Recent clinical or leadership experience in HEMS, EMS, or medical transport preferred.


Registered Nurse licensure in Virginia or Certified as Paramedic in Virginia (and must be Nationally Registered Paramedic). AHA BLS-HCP and EVOC required. Other clinical certifications may be obtained after hire.


Other Minimum Qualification:
Demonstrates excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, team leadership, priority setting and work competency skills.  Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Access and Power Point. Ability to use electronic medical records. Promotes a respectful, inclusive culture of service excellence.


This job will require the manager to occasionally fill the role of flight nurse or medic and therefore the candidate must meet those job requirements including 3 years full time minimum experience in ER or Critical Care (RN candidates) or 3 years full time experience in EMS (paramedic candidates), maximum weight of 225 pounds, and ability to be fitted for a respirator to protect self from exposure to airborne illnesses. This position will manage the 3 Life-Guard helicopter bases and the Neonatal-Pediatric Transportation division.
