Job Summary

The CCPT Critical Care Manager provides day-to-day leadership for successful implementation of goals and objectives for a department.  The CCPT Critical Care Manager’s responsibilities include planning of budget and managing expenses, communicating, organizing, prioritizing, leading, facilitating, coaching and problem solving with reporting staff to ensure that goals and objectives are met. The CCPT Critical Care Manager also works with other service line leaders to carry out new health care services and performance improvement initiatives. 

 

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
 

  • Applies key financial concepts and analysis to decision making.  Develops and implements actionable work plans with measurable outcome.  Continually assesses and reallocates resources to meet demands.
     
  • Holds self and team accountable for maintaining the highest possible performance standards in order to serve customers (patients, employees, physicians, colleagues).
     
  • Assures the effective and timely delivery of high-quality patient-centered services. Recognizes and acts on opportunities for growth and improvement to advance goals of the organization. Utilizes project management principles to accomplish goals, seeks out appropriate resources, and proactively anticipates change within area of responsibility. Translates goals into department specific objectives and priorities.
     
  • Inspires enthusiasm and builds support for projects.  Attracts, selects, develops, and retains qualified employees, and is effective in utilizing developmental planning to expand employee skills and abilities.
     
  • Responsible for compliance with applicable regulatory, licensure and accrediting standards where applicable (CAMTS, OEMS, OSHA, etc.).
     
  • Positively and appropriately represents Carilion Clinic at public and professional meetings.
     
  • May provide direct patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree or 8 years of equivalent paramedic or RN experience required. Must be graduate of an approved school or EMS program.
 

Experience:
3 years supervisory or clinical team lead experience required. Recent clinical or leadership experience in HEMS, EMS, or medical transport preferred.

 

License/Certification/Registration:
Registered Nurse licensure in Virginia or Certified as Paramedic in Virginia (and must be Nationally Registered Paramedic). AHA BLS-HCP and EVOC required. Other clinical certifications may be obtained after hire.

 

Other Minimum Qualification:
Demonstrates excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, team leadership, priority setting and work competency skills.  Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Access and Power Point. Ability to use electronic medical records. Promotes a respectful, inclusive culture of service excellence.

 

This job will require the manager to occasionally fill the role of flight nurse or medic and therefore the candidate must meet those job requirements including 3 years full time minimum experience in ER or Critical Care (RN candidates) or 3 years full time experience in EMS (paramedic candidates), maximum weight of 210 pounds, and ability to be fitted for a respirator to protect self from exposure to airborne illnesses. This position will manage the 3 Life-Guard helicopter bases and the Neonatal-Pediatric Transportation division.
