How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:
Manages the daily operations of professional coding functions and supports staff including managing staff performance, orientation, training, and Epic education. Develops education to advance coding knowledge and skill sets of coding staff. Supports and consults with departments across the Carilion Clinic system to identify coding-related needs for accurate reimbursement and compliant charge capture.
- Manages coding staff and ensures quality and productivity standards are met. Ensures accounts are coded accurately.
- Monitors day to day activities of coding employees including interviews, hiring, coaching, and employee relations.
- Manages staffing assignments based on coding needs.
- Communicates to other staff correct coding requirements for data capture and billing purposes.
- Contributes to Carilion Clinic's Performance Improvement Activities. Evaluates the quality and productivity of coding activities by each coder on the team and ensures coding consistency for the specialties supported.
- Monitors the department budget and approves and reconciles expenses as needed.
- Provides data to leadership, which includes changes in volumes, staffing, quality, and productivity.
- Manages coding competencies following Carilion policies.
- Educates and trains coding employees.
- Consults daily with the coding staff to resolve coding related concerns.
What We Require:
Education: Associate’s degree required. Years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Experience: 2 years of lead or supervisory experience that demonstrates increased and/or diversified responsibility for management in a Clinical Documentation Improvement, Coding Department, or other similar setting. Experience/exposure and working knowledge of coding, guidelines, and documentation requirements.
This is for a Professional Coding Manager position which requires a CPC certification. Orthopedic and Neurosurgery coding experience preferred. Hybrid of working in the office and remotely.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: RHIT, RHIA, or coding certification (CCS, CPC, CPC-H) required, or RN with BS and CCA or CPC-A within first year of hire. THIS POSITION REQUIRES CANDIDATE TO HAVE A CURRENT CPC CREDENTIAL
Other Minimum Qualifications: Advanced knowledge of Excel, Advanced written and verbal communication skills. Has demonstrated leadership, team building and problem solving skills. Excellent working knowledge of information technology systems. Possesses critical analytical skills and ability to present complex data.
