The Database Administrator I works independently to monitor, tune, and maintain Carilion Clinic’s database environment.  In addition to high skill with database technologies and utilities, an administrator at this level is responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of all databases.   An administrator at this level is expected to have strong interpersonal and communications skill and be able to mentor other team members.  This level administrator must demonstrate an ability to lead and manage small enterprise projects. 

 

The Database Administrator I’s role is to provide expert-level day-to-day operational administration of Carilion’s databases.  Additionally, this job will require the Database Administrator to determine need and oversee all installation and upgrades.  This job will require test and participate in verification of database backups.  The job requires the team member to carry a cellphone pager, to participate in 24x7 call rotation, and requires occasional travel.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Associates Degree in Information Technology or equivalent of 2-years of relevant experience

Experience:

1 year recent Oracle installation and administration; Oracle certification preferred

1 year recent Microsoft SQL server installation and administration; MS SQL Server certification, preferred

1 year recent Intersystems Cache experience, desirable; Epic Cache System Administration, preferred

Recent experience with IBM AIX, RedHat Linux and/or Windows Server Operating Systems, preferred

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager TDP and client experience, desirable

Ability to work in a high-availability, high-performance, large database environment

Ability to optimize SQL queries

Basic knowledge of Korn, Bash, Perl, PHP, and VB scripting

Microsoft Office application such as Office, Access, Project, Visio, SharePoint

Other Minimum Qualifications: Must be creative and innovative. Must be able to adapt to changes, and help resolve conflicts. Research new technologies and provide input. Keep all required 1)certifications up-to-date. Completes and maintains documentation of a minimum of 40 hours of pertinent continuing education each year Maintain close contact with everyone on the Storage Team and be aware of all ongoing projects and provide support, guidance and resources as necessary. Work closely with TSG staff, especially the IT teams to accomplish TSG and Carilion Clinic goals.   The team member will be required to carry a pager-cell phone and will need to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation. The job requires onsite work including additional off-hours work and does not allow work-at-home schedules.  Travel is required occasionally
