Job Summary

Carilion Clinic - Technology Services Group (TSG) is seeking a Database Administrator IV in Roanoke, VA. You will serve as a resource for the DBA team and will research, implement, and maintain information technologies to increase database systems operational efficiencies and secure Carilion’s enterprise network.  Additionally, you will manage corporate projects and problem resolution requiring the participation of multiple specialized teams.


Duties and Responsibilities include: 

  • Independently develop reference materials (database schema diagrams, installation documentation, etc.) for supported database technologies to be used for both online and in-person training of other technical staff.
  • Serve as the primary architects for Carilion’s database architecture; provides strategic recommendations to leadership on database consolidation, versioning, and platform adoption to ensure Carilion is maximizing use of the technologies deployed.
  • Perform cross-platform referential integrity, capacity planning, index maintenance, backup/restore operations, ongoing monitoring, and security/access control of enterprise databases.
  • Serve as both a professional and technical mentor to other Database Administrators.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and multiple teams while providing resolution to problem incidents as escalated from the Technology Service Center.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

Minimum eight years’ active Oracle 11g/12c and/or Microsoft SQL 2012/2014 combined experience required.

 

Minimum five years’ recent IBM AIX, Linux, and/or Windows Server experience required.

 

Intersystems Cache, Epic Cogito Clarity experience preferred.


Licensure, certification, and/or registration:

Valid Virginia drivers' license and dependable transportation.

               

A minimum of three of the following certifications are required:

 

Microsoft MCSA (SQL 2008 or newer)

Microsoft MCSE (Data Management and Analytics)

Epic Operational Database Administrator

Epic Clarity ETL Administrator

Oracle Certified Associate (10g or newer)

Oracle Certified Professional (10g or newer)

HIMSS – Certified Associate (CAHIMS)

HIMSS – Certified Professional (CPHIMS)


Other Minimum Qualifications: Good organizational skills, analytical, dependable, detail oriented, interpersonal skills, and understanding of the English language (both written and oral).  Must have thorough understanding of the 7-layer OSI model.  IBM AIX, Linux, Microsoft Windows Server, IBM TSM/TDP, SQL optimization, Oracle RMAN, Oracle ASM, Oracle DataGuard management experience preferred.  Basic Korn, Perl, VB Scripting experience desirable.  Must have excellent problem-solving skills and be customer service oriented.
