How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:
The Development Officer- Annual Fund is responsible for developing and delivering a dynamic and strategic Annual Fund program for Carilion Clinic with a view to expanding the donor database and prospect pool. The position coordinates ongoing annual donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities.
- Implement an annual strategic plan for securing new and renewed annual contributions from employees, individuals and corporate donors through targeted electronic and written appeals.
- Works with the Foundation Team to coordinate the schedule and strategies for annual giving appeals and direct mail. This includes actively supporting creative concepts, writing and editing appeal content and overseeing mailing procedures.
- Plans and leads the annual Employee Giving Campaign and digital campaigns such as Giving Tuesday and Roanoke Gives.
- Identify mid-level prospects for development efforts through the Grateful Patient Program.
- Helps qualify prospective major donors through wealth screening.
- Implement an annual strategic stewardship plan for donors which may include thank you events, newsletters and other materials.
- Prepares stewardship materials such as gift acknowledgements, pledge reminders and first-time donor mailings.
- Supports the development of communication strategies for internal and external audiences.
- Analyzes data and makes appropriate adjustments to activities and programs to ensure strong results.
- Works with web team to incorporate e-philanthropy with annual giving initiatives.
- Participate in appropriate Foundation events.
- Develop and maintain a strong relationship with the Carilion Clinic community and be knowledgeable about departmental activities as appropriate.

What We Require:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience: A minimum of two years progressively responsible experience in fundraising development required.
Other Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Knowledge of Blackbaud or other development database system preferred.
- Ability to maintain current knowledge of the Foundation database system.
- Must be flexible and a self-starter.
