Disaster Recovery Coordinator

Job Summary

Responsible for working directly with Carilion’s IT staff on the proactive maintenance of Carilion’s technology related disaster recovery processes and procedures.  Coordinates periodic testing of the disaster recovery procedures for Carilion’s technology systems with operational and support groups within IT. Ensures all disaster recovery related processes and procedures are up to date and accurate, and that all IT staff are familiar with the disaster recovery plan.  Serves as the primary coordinator in the event of a disaster, and as a liaison between technical recovery teams and the senior management team.

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to: 

  • Works with IT staff on the ongoing maintenance of Carilion’s IT disaster recovery plan to ensure that recovery steps are concise and complete.
  • Facilitates and manages disaster recovery testing on a quarterly basis to ensure the plan is complete and accurate.
  • Works with IT management to develop new processes and refine existing ones for improved operational effectiveness of the disaster recovery plan.
  • Works with IT staff to ensure that new IT systems are accounted for in the disaster recovery plan, and associated procedures developed prior to being moved into a production status.
  • Ensures that all IT operational and support groups are educated and familiar with the disaster recovery plan.
  • Ensures that all associated documentation in the disaster recovery information system is up to date and accurate.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience: Minimum three years’ experience in Information Technology or related field.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Valid Virginia drivers' license and dependable transportation.

Additionally, any of the following are also preferred, but not required:

  • PMP

Other Minimum Qualifications: Good organizational skills, analytical, dependable, detail oriented, interpersonal skills, and understanding of the English language (both written and oral).  Must have an in-depth understanding of all stages of the IT disaster recovery planning life-cycle including: requirement analysis, design, development, implementation, testing, maintenance, and execution.  Must have excellent project management skills, and be customer service oriented.
