How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:
Supervises, coordinates, plans, schedules, and monitors the maintenance, repair, minor renovation, construction and administrative activities of maintenance personnel and contract personnel performing required building maintenance and upgrading for Carilion owned and managed facilities.
- Supervises the care and maintenance of facilities, supplies, equipment and work areas, and performs related duties to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of the building systems. Consults with Directors and Managers of Engineering & Maintenance on assignments and projects and keeps them informed of related activities, needs and problems. Advises on building and system conditions which warrant emergency repairs and improvements. Assists in developing capital projects and operating expense budgets, progress reports and other special projects as needed.
- Supervises, coordinates, plans, schedules and implements activities for assigned maintenance personnel and assures timely accomplishment of assigned workload in maintenance repairs, renovation and general building maintenance. Coordinates frequency and schedules preventative maintenance of facility systems, equipment and other items. Performs inspections and makes recommendations on needed repairs, replacements, or installations. Provides information for facility planning.
- Supervises and monitors work in progress and prepares reports and documents as required. Receives assignments, reviews work orders, prioritizes, informs management of status, time schedules and ensures work is completed as specified. Establishes, maintains, and monitors activity objectives, production standards, work flow and complies with all codes, regulations and accreditation requirements. Ensures accurate documentation of staff worked time and specific work functions. Supports fire and life safety and other compliance and regulatory efforts.
- Selects, orients, trains, coaches, evaluates and disciplines assigned personnel. Encourages and assists in the professional growth and development of staff, meets departmental training goals, and provides for and participates in department in-services.
- Oversees and executes department projects and ensures compliance with all applicable code and regulations associated with assigned construction trades. Plans, coordinates and schedules the activities and completion of projects as assigned, periodically inspects buildings and grounds, and makes recommendation on needed repairs, replacements, installations and additions, etc. Provides supervision, guidance and technical assistance as needed to staff or contractors. Collaborates with other facility personnel to ensure timely completion of all projects.
- Organizes and maintains inventory of tools, equipment and supplies. Inspects and schedules maintenance of machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operations manuals and manufacturer’s specifications. Maintains files of related equipment for parts lists, various installation instructions and service manuals, and other files and records as required. Maintains and enforces established organizational and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
What We Require:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent education required. Associates degree preferred. Technical training or completion of apprenticeship in one or more of the trades preferred.
Experience: Four years of lead or supervisory experience in maintenance or construction management required.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Licensed as trades person preferred. Valid Virginia Driver’s License required.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of and ability in the areas of blueprint reading, CAD, drafting, estimating, building construction standards and national, state and local codes and regulations specific to the crafts associated with construction. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written communications. Genuine interest in the development of subordinates to meet institution and patient care needs. Ability learn and effective use Microsoft Office Suite and a work order control system. Position is deemed ‘emergency personnel’ during emergency weather conditions. Must be able to provide own transportation and travel to other Carilion work sites as required.
