Job Summary


Carilion Clinic Hospice Services is seeking a Hospice Manager, RN, position for their Roanoke based office for clinical and business operations of a growing hospice program. This position is full time, working Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm with 24 hour accountability. Qualified candidates should demonstrate a proven record of successful leadership of a hospital based or community based hospice program.  Must demonstrate success in business growth, diversification and quality.


This position will support Carilion's hallmarks of service excellence and quality for all job responsibilities. Plans, organizes, directs, communicates and evaluates activities of home health and hospice departments. Serves as the appointed Administrator for Hospice. Assumes 24 hour accountability for human resources, operational performance and patient care for home health and hospice. Responsible for all complex operational and personnel issues of a legal and ethical nature. Collaborates with the Senior Director to assure that system wide standards of care, service excellence, and goals and objectives are met at the local level. Develops, implements, and monitors the fiscal budget and capital equipment needs to assure the cost effective delivery of care. Collaborates with Clinical Leaders to implement daily services and supervise clinical care of the interdisiplinary team in both business units. Responsible for medical review and reimbursement appeals process. May make home visits for patients of all ages, as required, for staff supervision/evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications


Education: Bachelors degree in nursing, business or related field required. 


Experience: Three to five years experience in health care management required.  Home health and/or hospice experience preferred.  Thorough working knowledge of current regulations and accrediting standards for the State of Virginia and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations required.  Experience in managing in a competitive environment.


Licensure, certification and/or registration: Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia.  Must possess VA Driver's license.


Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required.


Other Minimum Qualifications: Computer skills required.  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint required.  Demonstrates positive interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, analytical business skills, integrity, innovation, team player, problem solving/conflict resolution skills and customer focused philosophy.  Work is performed in an office environment with travel required.  meets physical requirements for essential job functions.  Must have a criminal record check showing no convictions of barrier crimes.
