Duties include but are not limited to:

Collaborates as a member of the Quality/Education team on development/maintenance of comprehensive coder orientation program; internship program and ongoing educational needs for each coding modality.
Completes secondary reviews of targeted patient populations to identify missed opportunities and accurate selection and sequence of codes.
Acts as liaison between the Coding Department and the Clinical Documentation Specialist to reconcile discrepancies in DRG assignment
Acts as CI representative on Quality committees, following up on identified issues/opportunities. Reports these findings monthly at CI educational webinars.
Communicates findings of Quality reviews to coding staff for follow-up
Collaborates with CI leadership and CDI when specified educational needs are identified
Documents and tracks secondary review data in Tracking Tool. Shares this information with staff at monthly CI team meeting
Analyzes and interprets clinical data to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and/or opportunities for improvement in the clinical documentation for coding and appropriately queries the provider.
Regularly interacts with/educates providers/healthcare team to enhance understanding of the CDCI program and to ensure the medical record can be coded accurately in order to reflect patient severity of illness and risk of mortality.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: AS degree or equivalent experience required.

Experience: Minimum of 5years experience in Inpatient and Outpatient coding required.  Minimum of 2 years’ experience related to education and/or quality review.  Must be able to demonstrate broad coding knowledge base necessary to review a wide variety of medical records. Demonstrated positive communication skills.

Licensure/certification: Certification in Coding required:  CCS, CIC,CPC, COC or RHIT

Other Minimum Qualifications: Experience with Excel, Power Point, Presenting data, Strong oral and written communication skills and Collaboration skills
