Network Security Engineer III (Cloud)

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited: 

  • Proactively monitor security technologies for unusual or suspicious activities; interpret and make recommendations for resolution.  Security technologies include, but are not limited to: Firewalls, Logging Aggregation Systems, IDS, IPS, SIEM, NAC, and data loss prevention technologies.
  • Proactively identifies zero-day vulnerabilities, abnormal behavioral patterns, security trends, and sophisticated cyber-attack techniques to enhance the security program and safeguard the environment.
  • Proactively monitors the threat landscape and current controls to evaluate the effectiveness of the security tools.
  • Works with IT teams to develop security strategy roadmap for enterprise security architecture and the implementation of appropriate safeguards and controls.
  • Interfaces with clients, vendors, and multiple teams while providing resolution to incidents as escalated from the Technology Service Center.
  • Independently manages assigned projects and meets deadlines.
  • Independently leads large projects and assigns tasks to supporting technical staff.
  • Independently develops reference materials (network diagrams, security flow diagrams, installation documentation, etc.) for supported security technologies to be used for both online and in-person training of other technical staff.
  • Serves as both a professional and technical mentor to other Security Engineers.
  • Proactively identifies areas of improvement (process or technical) and develops plans for associated changes required.
  • Independently leads process improvement initiatives approved by Manager.
  • Serves as a leader of the team in the absence of the Manager.
  • Adheres to departmental policies and procedures in an effort to assure prompt resolution to identified problems.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience: Minimum seven years of experience in security administration experience in a large, complex environment. Experience in monitoring and supporting IDS/IPS, Firewall, SIEM, DLP, and log aggregation hardware/software required.
 

Licensure/Certification:

Valid Virginia drivers' license and dependable transportation.

               

Cisco CCNA Security

ISC2 CISSP

Additionally, any of the following are also preferred, but not required:

Certified Ethical Hacker

Cisco CCIE

Cisco CCNP Security

Checkpoint CCSE

ISACA CISM
 

Other: Good organizational skills, analytical, dependable, detail oriented, interpersonal skills, and understanding of the English language (both written and oral).  Must have thorough understanding of the 7-layer OSI model.  Must have understanding and experience with Enterprise class security products such as web proxy, reverse proxy, load balancing, IDS/IPS, DLP, Firewall, IPsec/SSL VPN, WAN/LAN, DDOS prevention, wireless and remote connectivity.  Must have understanding and experience with Infrastructure security, including windows, Unix/Linux, desktop/laptop, and mobile security, hands-on experience in packet capturing and analyzing logs, as well as knowledge of cryptography and PKI.  Must have thorough understanding of compliance frameworks and requirements such as PCI, HIPAA, HITECH, SOX, etc.  Must have operational knowledge of threat landscape, security threat and vulnerability management, and security monitoring and analytics.   Must have excellent problem solving skills, and be customer service oriented.
