This position will work towards reducing preventable patient harm and improving the quality of healthcare. Responsible for coordinating the patient safety activities and its associated entities, including but not limited to,  analyzing  patient safety events and data; conducting event investigations; providing feedback to stakeholders and assisting them in identifying and addressing areas of improvement; and providing SafeWatch educational programs.  Serves as a member resource on event reporting in SafeWatch.

 

Accurately interprets Patient Safety Event Reports, ensures accuracy of the risk score, follows up with the service and unit level stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement and tracks and trends this data to provide information and recommendations to Quality and Patient Safety.  Collect, collate, analyze, and display data from event reviews, RCAs and other sources. Disseminate to appropriate committees and individuals for improvement purposes. Assist in preparing and presenting briefings on patient safety events and reporting findings as appropriate.  Compile and track all root cause issues identified; complete and submit reports to management outlining patterns and trends; search for common issues of a recurring systemic nature; and select problems with greatest customer/client impact, uncovering any common contributing causes.

 

Works in a normal office department. May be required to spend extended periods of time at a computer terminal. Provides support and assistance to team members.  Must be able to communicate medical information and discuss patient safety needs with colleagues.  Position requires a high level of accuracy and organizational skills in dealing with large amounts of data and information for long periods of time.  Requires good writing and reporting skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma, Associates degree preferred or a minimum of three years comparable work experience required.

 

Experience: Previous experience in healthcare preferred.

 

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Licensed Practical Nurse preferred

 

Other Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of a variety of PC software, such as, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
