Physician Recruiter

How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:

Plans, coordinates, implements, and directs all activities for the recruitment and hiring of primary care and specialty care providers for Carilion Clinic. Advises and collaborates with physician leadership and senior management with regard to provider recruitment and retention, strategies, and budgetary matters.
 

• Partners with physician leaders and management to develops effective strategies in promoting Carilion Clinic opportunities, for the recruitment of  providers in training and in practice. Implements methods to generate candidates to include national/local internet advertising, website postings, database searches, direct mail, journal advertising, referrals from Carilion employed providers, and contacting residency programs.     
• Manages all aspects of the process by screening and responding to candidates inquiries; contacting candidates and discussing opportunities; presenting qualified candidates to hospital administrator/lead physician for consideration; coordinates date of site visit and works with Travel Services on travel arrangements; oversees preparation of/prepares itinerary and participates in site visit; makes all necessary arrangements to fully expose the candidate and spouse as appropriate, to the opportunity and to the community; follows up with candidates/ department or group, to determine continued interest; coordinates 2nd visit if necessary.     
• Maintains organizational knowledge of strategic staffing plan to include succession planning and affirmative action goals in an effort to develop recruitment strategies to meet future workforce needs.     
• Establishes working relationships with the various sources of physicians who are seeking practice opportunities, such as medical schools, residency training programs, national, state, and local medical societies and associations.
• Attends physician recruitment events when needed, ie. national and local medical conferences, resident events, job fairs, networks with local and national colleagues, and attends related Association of Staff Physician Recruiters educational functions.     
• Partners with Carilion Clinic Marketing/Communications to design and develop advertising and literature that is aligned with the overall Carilion Clinic marketing strategy.  
• Gathers pertinent data about opportunities and summarizes information for job postings and develops a practice and community profile to communicate the opportunity to candidates.     
• Maintains database of all candidate information to include curriculum vitae, contact information, site visit itinerary, interview feedback sheets, and follow-up information.     
• Serves as liaison with candidates, physician leaders, management, hospital administrators, and physicians.
• Maintains up-to-date working knowledge and complies with all aspects of Carilion Human Resources Policies, and State and Federal Employment and Affirmative Action Laws.     
• Practices cost effective measures following budgetary guidelines while recruiting. Tracks and monitors all costs associated with recruitment efforts for each opportunity including advertising and site visit expenses per opportunity.  
• Works with physician leaders and  management to develop physician orientation plans.
• Collects, analyzes, and disseminates relevant metrics to understand and make informed decisions in relation to effective recruitment strategies.

What We Require:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Health Care Management or business related field required.    

Experience: Three to five years’ experience in recruitment or physician related services required.    

Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Certified Medical Staff Recruiter through the American Academy of Medical Management preferred.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to exercise discretion, sound judgment, and flexibility in varying situations. Maintains confidentiality. Ability to independently plan, organize, prioritize, schedule, coordinate, and make decisions relating to assigned tasks and responsibilities. Strong problem solving skills. Word Processing and spreadsheet software skills.
