Job Summary
This position facilitates major/significant organizational change initiatives intended to improve clinical quality, efficiency, effectiveness, timeliness, patient satisfaction or financial performance within a clinical department.
- Facilitates and leads on-going committees/teams, quality improvement/patient safety initiatives to achieve outcomes. Uses organizational and project management skills, clinical knowledge and presentation skills to advance goals:
- Communicates progress to key stakeholders/update which demonstrates active leadership skill set in unit-rounding and unit-based, action-oriented meetings.
- Meets expectations of the Carilion Nursing Quality Department and Center for Excellence. .
- Designs and conducts studies of clinical practice, outcome and effectiveness. Makes recommendations for CMC quality/patient safety goals and initiatives.
- Initiates and implements processes and procedures necessary to comply with departmental quality and performance improvement.
- Creates, maintains and distributes quality and other performance improvement reports.
- Assists Quality Administrator with reporting requirements; assists in the preparation of Quality Assurance reports as defined.
- Supports and attends Nursing Quality and Safety Council.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field or Equivalent 8 years experience required. Masters Degree Preferred/ Preference will be given to Registered Nurses with diverse clinical experience and/or experience in Quality Improvement, Patient Safety or Risk Management.
Experience: Five years experience in clinical setting or demonstrated skill leading quality and/or patient safety improvement projects in complex organizational environments preferred.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Certification required – defined by area: CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) preferred; CPHRM (Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management) or CPPS (Certified Professional in Patient Safety) acceptable. Must have plan to obtain at least one of these certifications within 2 years of hire.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational ability, and initiative. Proven ability to understand and apply analytical tools and make process improvement recommendations. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office software and able to learn other software as needed. Good project management and team dynamic skills in order to facilitate change and achievement of defined outcomes. Must be able to work with minimal amount of supervision
