Job Summary
Development and oversight of the Mortality Management Program (MMP) for Carilion Clinic to include best practices in all-cause mortality review. Develops program structure, improvement objectives, engagement and collaboration with key stakeholders. Manages and executes program deliverables according to the program plan as defined by the program charter. Through a multi-program analysis and in collaboration with the CAPS leadership team, prioritizes program deliverables which are identified to have the greatest positive impact on outcomes based on a systematic weighting algorithm. Manages assigned staff and collaborates with other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
Oversees CAPS resources dedicated to support the MMP and all CAPS-owned MMP-related improvement projects. In addition to improvement in patient quality and safety, identifies opportunities for maximizing revenue and reducing risk of revenue loss. Uses data to effectively communicate these opportunities to the appropriate stakeholders to ensure data-driven decisions are made related to the identified goals and resource allocation of the MMP. Serves as a content expert resource related to the Vizient database, and other external data sets, providing mortality-related data for all facilities and appropriate benchmarking as requested. Serves as an educator of the specifications and methodologies for all programs within the MMP. Serves as an educator of quality improvement methodologies and tools as needed. Ensures tasks associated with MMP deliverables are done within required timelines. Ensures standards compliance related to the MMP.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare administration management or a healthcare related field required or equivalent 8 years of related experience. Masters degree preferred. RN strongly preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of healthcare experience with focus on healthcare quality, process improvement and project management. Database management experience strongly desired to include data reporting, analysis, management plus presentation/data visualization experience. Vizient experience a plus. Experience in mortality management quality improvement activities strongly preferred. Experience/ knowledge in related quality improvement methodology/tools extremely helpful. Ideal candidate will have expertise in the oversight of outcomes in all-cause mortality management for a large health system. Experience with healthcare project management strongly preferred. Experience leading a team needed.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Certification(s) in healthcare quality, process improvement and project management strongly desired. Will obtain certification within 24 months of hire. Certification type to be approved by direct supervisor.

Experience with driving results through translation of the overall objectives of the organization into actionable, quantitative plans with a demonstrated ability to successfully overcome obstacles to delivery. Strong analytical skills to assist leadership in learning new ways to manage outcomes using evidence-based techniques. Strong communication skills and ability to translate program messaging dependent upon the audience. Strong presentation skills to formulate and present opportunities, timelines, and expected outcomes. Advanced leadership, planning and organizational skills to direct the successful completion of initiatives and achievement of fiscal goals. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication abilities to support and promote a respectful, inclusive culture of service excellence. Proven skills in clinical, operational and human resource management, including staffing, planning, performance management, teamwork and process improvement. Statistical analysis and fiscal management skills. Must satisfactorily complete orientation processes for Carilion Clinic and for Quality Program Manager position. Must display positive leadership skills, interpersonal & oral communication skills, and written communication skills. Must work well with all members of the community hospital teams, including employees, managers, administrators and physicians. Must understand dynamics of and be able to work effectively within a “matrix” management environment. Must possess analytic business skills, integrity as a team player; be courteous; have ability to resolve complaints/problems; and display a customer-focused philosophy of service.
