Respiratory Transport Therapist - Neonatal/Pediatrics (Regular Part-time)

This is a Regular Part-time position working approximately 48 hours per pay period or every two weeks.

The Respiratory Transport Therapist erforms basic and advanced therapeutic, diagnostic and life support respiratory care procedures in general, critical care and transport patient care areas. Collaborates with other transport team members and referral facilities. Provides excellent customer service and assists with family and staff education.

1. Collaborates with other transport team members to ensure the safety of all transport operations. Provides rapid assessment, emergency measures and transportation for the critically ill/injured patient, utilizing the latest techniques and state of the art equipment.  Uses an advanced level of communication skills.
2. Applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served- Performs various therapeutic, life support, diagnostic procedures and patient family education. Evaluates patients for the appropriateness and effectiveness of ordered therapy and communicates suggested alternatives to physician. Performs facility specific support functions.
3. Organizes, prioritizes and evaluates patient care delivered by various levels of staff both in hospital and on transport. Participates in providing outreach education. Acts as resource to other patient support staff.
4. Actively participates in performance improvement program by collecting and analyzing data to obtain desired outcomes.
5. Acquires and maintains advanced skills per orientation and annual competencies. Maintains all required certifications, licenses and continuing education.
6. Performs cleaning, preventative maintenance and operational verification of equipment. Recognizes equipment malfunction and takes appropriate action- Monitors safety practices in the work environment and reports areas of concern.
7. Performs independently during team downtime in a productive manner. Completes timely communication of progress on team or individual assignments at staff meetings and through email updates. Recognizes non-productive time and changes status to on-call or goes home with PTO if not staffing.
8. Assists patient, family and referring facility in completing the electronic satisfaction surveys or provides a paper format of the survey.  Assists Outreach Department on transport follow-up during down-time.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an AMA COARC approved advanced practitioner program.  BLS required.

Experience: 3 years of Full Time employment in a critical care or emergency department setting required.  PICU or NICU preferred.
 
Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Licensed by the Virginia State Board of Medicine and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Pediatric/Neonatal specialty credential preferred.
 
Other Minimum Qualifications:

Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Programs and Advanced Cardiac Life Support prior to coming off orientation and and STABLE within 1 year. Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation yearly for position.  Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and high tolerance to stress. Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of the position.

Must be self-motivated.
