How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:

Individual hired will have the ability to work from home 2 days per week.  


Develops and directs effective strategies and processes for Planning and Market Research services. Shares accountability as a member of the Marketing, Planning & Communications leadership team for integration and provision of effective services across the organization. Proactively supports Carilion’s strategic focus of clinical practice, education and research and Carilion’s values.  Will oversee a department of 3-4 seasoned direct reports.  

  • Develops and directs provision of strategically-aligned planning and market research services for Carilion affiliates and/or departments.  Anticipates service area needs and proactively presents solutions that support the organization’s mission and the business units’ goals. Conducts analysis and develops recommendations.  
  • Provides and directs consultative services to assigned affiliates and/or departments in any of the following disciplines or combination of disciplines: Service lines, community hospitals and business units.
  • Coordinates planning projects and activities, serving as a liaison and/or project leader with departmental colleagues, other support services, and operations team members; engages leadership, colleagues and staff as necessary.
  • Develops and monitors departmental goals, performance improvement activities, operational budgets, benchmark strategies and operational excellence standards.  Implements an effective and ongoing program to evaluate and measure success of departmental activities against scorecard initiatives and system goals and objectives. 
  • Establishes, maintains and evaluates internal and external business relationships. Directs request for proposal (RFP) process and negotiates multi-vendor contracts in collaboration with other essential business units. Manages (multi) million dollar budgets and vendor contracts.
  • Maintains professional affiliations as appropriate and participates in professional activities to keep abreast of developments in responsibility scope, including marketing, communications, community outreach and healthcare issues and trends.

What We Require:

Education: Master's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field.

Experience: Ten years demonstrated management and leadership experience in business development/planning experience. Demonstrated strategic planner with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus. Must be a well-organized and self-directed individual who is politically savvy and highly collaborative. Must relate to people at all levels of an organization and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Must have excellent facilitation skills and be able to negotiate problem solving and effective conflict resolution. Must be an excellent role model with the ability to serve in multiple roles including as an educator, mentor and coach to leaders and employees. Experience in leadership of teams or projects beyond a department level required.
