The Specialty Pharmacy Manager will provide supervision, direction and coordination of the clinical functions and workflows for Specialty Pharmacy staff.  Serve as an expert and professional resource to service areas and Specialty Pharmacy staff.  Work with other departments to coordinate the provision and monitoring of pharmaceutical services.  The manager may, at times, be required to perform the Clinical Staff Pharmacist duties and must meet all requirements of a basic Pharmacist position. All pharmacists work throughout the Carilion Health System to provide Pharmaceutical Care (The direct, responsible provision of medication-related care for the purpose of achieving definite outcomes that improve a patient’s quality of life.) to all patients.

Works with all pharmacy staff to perform daily oversight and monitoring to comply with legal requirements for pharmacy licensure.as well as specialty pharmacy accreditation. Participates in the development and implementation of new programs, services and practices, and educational activities of the department. Develops workflows and improves revenue and safety performance. Appraises and administers annual employee evaluations for direct-line responsibilities in a timely manner. Assists other managers in the management and evaluation of other personnel. Assists the Director of Pharmacy in providing a vision for the course of specialty pharmacy services.  Assist in maintaining the department and facility for state, federal and specialty accreditation surveys. Provide direct supervision for assigned staff including counseling, coaching, and written corrective action as appropriate. Supports and assists other managers of the department in supervising and coaching on a daily basis. Develops and provides monthly reports including monthly summary and quality reports, cost savings initiatives, and departmental PI activities. Maintains strong working relationships with Pharmacy staff to maintain high morale and promotion of the department. Works to provide orientation, education, and staff development as appropriate and as assigned by the Senior Director of Pharmacy. Supports the training of pharmacy residents and students. Works with and directs the Scheduler to complete staff scheduling in a thorough and timely manner and provides support and guidance during staffing shortages. Provides clinical pharmaceutical care to patients. Develops Polices and Procedures consistent with practices of specialty pharmacy.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

1.  The Pharmacist must be a graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).
2.  An advance degree or ASHP accredited residency is preferred but not required

Experience: Three years hospital pharmacy experience is required.  Supervisory or management experience is preferred by not required.

Licensure, Certification and/or Registration: Licensure to practice Pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Eligibility and completion of reciprocity for licensure in the state of Virginia within 90 days of hire

Other Minimum Qualifications:

1. Must be knowledgeable in the basic aspects of institutional pharmacy practice and the detailed and multi-faceted aspects of the position.
2. Requires knowledge and skills of general office equipment, computers and keyboarding ability.
3. Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision.
4. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Must possess effective leadership skills.
6. Must possess excellent critical thinking and analytical skills
