The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist uses patient centered therapy, education and recreational opportunities to improve and maintain physical, cognitive, emotional, and/or social functioning to enhance patients’ independent living skills.
Job duties of the Therapeutic Rec Specialist include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assesses, plans and implements leisure activities (e.g., arts, crafts, music, games, community re-entry outings) to help improve the functional skills of patients challenged by varying degrees of physical, cognitive, emotional, and/or social disabilities.
- Provides patient care based upon physician referral and age-appropriate assessment and takes into consideration the patient’s developmental/chronological age when planning/implementing treatment programs designed to achieve goals set in conjunction with the patient and/or family member.
- Documents in the patient’s medical record and complete other patient care-related forms in compliance with regulatory agencies and department/hospital policies and procedures.
- Coordinates patient care and clinical activities through written and/or verbal communication with patients, families, managers and other members of the health care team.
Must have willingness to become an Acudetox Specialist within the first 6 months.
Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 8am-4:30
What We Require:
Education: Graduate of an accredited program in Therapeutic Recreation with a B.S.
Experience: Degree or equivalent 8 years of experience required.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: AHA BLS-HCP required within 6 months of hire.AHA BLS-HCP required within 6 months of hire.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Good interpersonal and communication skills. BLS-certified (from a Carilion approved program) within six months of employment,.and successful completion of defensive driving course within six months of employment.
