Carilion Children's - Our full-service 92-bed “hospital within a hospital” at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital includes a regional, level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for 60 newborns, a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and an inpatient unit designed specifically for children.  Carilion Children’s Hospital is southwestern Virginia's only Pediatric Level 1 trauma center with advanced medical transport units and an emergency department devoted to acutely ill or injured children.

 

The Vice President of Pediatrics serves as dyad partner with the Chair of Pediatrics.  The incumbent reports directly to the EVP/COO.

 

Considered candidates will have a track record of developing and implementing proactive strategic initiatives and integrated approaches to ensure positive patient outcomes as measured by key performance indicators. Must have the ability to articulate strategic vision and influence others through consensus building and collaborative leadership. Additional qualifications include superior analytical, interpersonal and communication skills with a proven capacity for building credibility, role modeling collegiality and developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including physicians and executives. Established performance in positioning services in optimal markets and locations for strategic service line growth is required. Experience in mentorship, facilitation, multi-disciplinary team-building and conflict resolution skills are required.

Minimum Qualifications

The VP of Pediatrics will have routine interaction and relationships at all levels within Carilion Clinic, as well as within the community. The incumbent frequently interacts one-on-one, makes group presentations, leads teams, multi-service and organizational projects. Makes decisions and offers consultative advice on matters with organizational implications.

 

Required qualifications include ten (10) years of progressively responsible leadership roles in health care with a master’s degree in healthcare, business or related discipline

 

  • Proven results and demonstrated leadership ability to ensure exceptional service delivery with skilled staffing in a dynamic, quality oriented environment for a large, complex area of responsibility. 
  • Consistent demonstration of proficiency in situational and change leadership, collegiality and sustaining trusting relationships with physicians, leaders, staff, strategic partners and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to develop and fulfill strategic objectives which provide optimal quality, service excellence, patient satisfaction, and fiscal management for long term economic value, resource utilization and efficiency planning. 
  • Excellent communication, mentor, facilitation, multi-disciplinary team building and conflict resolution skills are a requirement.  Leads and promotes employee engagement throughout the organization.
